Each student that enters the International Baccalaureate program at Lecanto High School is asked to uphold high standards of honesty and integrity.
PIBS and IB at LHS Academic and Behavior Honor Codes
Students in the PIBS or IB program at Lecanto High School are held to the highest standard of academic excellence and personal behavior. LHS provides this PIBS and IB at LHS Academic and Behavior Honor Codes so that students may understand what is expected of them and so that LHS can help preserve the integrity and reputation of those students in the PIBS and IB programs.
The virtue of honor is of great importance, for it is personal integrity that will influence and finally determine many of our actions and beliefs throughout our life. Living in a manner that is consistent with this honor code will produce an atmosphere of trust, freedom, and integrity that distinguishes Lecanto High School.
ACADEMICS and HONOR PIBS and IB students shall be honor-bound to refrain from cheating of every kind, including, but not limited to the following:
copying plagiarizing cell phone usage using cheat sheets
exchanging old tests or papers looking at someone else’s answers
giving or receiving answers downloading papers from the internet
creating or using/viewing websites that allow one to engage in academic dishonesty
working together on specified, individual assignments
OR any other activity that may be deemed unethical and academic fraudulent
BEHAVIOR and HONOR Student conduct is not just limited to academic issues; rather, student behavior inside and outside the walls of Lecanto High School should be impeccable. Students should maintain the same high standards outside the academic world as they maintain in it. PIBS and IB students shall be honor bound to refrain from the following behaviors:
creating or using/viewing websites that contain material which disparages others or Lecanto High School
skipping school bullying or harassment (including cyber bullying)
using or dealing illegal drugs repeated tardiness fighting forging of signatures
earning an out-of-school or in-school suspension acting with intentional disrespect
making threats OR any other action that is unethical or illegal
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
Students are duty-bound to take action to stop any violation of the Academic / Behavior Honor Code. Action may include speaking directly to the offender; however, students are expected to speak directly and privately to a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Inaction implies that the student-witness condones inappropriate behavior. Students who know of honor violations and do nothing are just as guilty as those who violate the honor code.
Any student who commits an intentional and/or particularly egregious violation of the honor code may be removed from the PIBS or IB program at Lecanto High School.
Students who commit 3—even accidental—violations of the honor code may be removed from the PIBS or IB program at Lecanto High School.

DUE PROCESS FOR STUDENTS
At all times, it is the Lecanto High School Principal who will need to determine the best course of action whenever a student is accused of violating the Academic and Behavior Honor Code. It is the responsibility of the principal to ensure that all students at Lecanto High School are treated equally and fairly. Intentional or Egregious Violation OR Three minor or accidental violations
1. When a student is accused of an intentional or egregious violation or 3 violations, the principal, the IB Coordinator, and any other professionals involved in the situation (i.e. school resource officers, teachers, etc) will have a meeting to discuss whether removal of the student from PIBS or IB will take place.
2. IF all members from above agree to a certain course of action unanimously, then the student will be removed from PIBS or IB.
3. IF there is disagreement among the group as to the proper course of action, then the IB Coordinator, Assistant Principal, parents, and student will have a meeting to discuss the situation.
4. During this meeting, should both the parents and student decide that PIBS or IB is still the track preferred, then the student will be placed on a strict probationary period with certain expectations clearly articulated. At this time, any violation of these expectations by the student will result in the student’s immediate removal from either PIBS or IB.
